N-Gene Inc. is a
privately held US biopharmaceutical company with market
focus in the area of metabolic disorders. The company owns
an innovative pipeline of new chemical entities (NCEs),
targeting insulin resistance as underlying cause of multiple
metabolic indications.
The lead product BGP-15 is in clinical phase II testing for
type 2 diabetes, and in phase I testing as an adjunct
therapy for schizophrenics-induced metabolic disease.
The company has a strong backing by business entrepreneurs
in the US and Europe. The recent closure of a financing, in
conjunction with an awarded EU grant, will facilitate the
execution of the N-Gene's ambitious development plan to
gather definitive proof of concept data with perspective to
the mentioned market segments.
N-Gene's board of directors and management is composed of a
blend of seasoned individuals with entrepreneurial,
pharmaceutical and scientific background.
N-Gene Inc. was founded in 1997 to commercialize BGP-15 and
related derivatives, invented in its research base in
Hungary. More recently, the induction of heat shock proteins
was discovered as the underlying mechanisms of action of
this class of compounds. This important new knowledge
prompted N-Gene to initiate full development of BGP-15.
